While various Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs may have slight differences in their administrative procedures and the length of their growing seasons, they all operate essentially the same way. At the start of a season, you sign up for a share and agree to pay the farmer a fee. At that time, you may have a choice of days of the week and pickup locations where the farmer will distribute the shares.

When you arrive to pick up your share, you may find a box already filled with produce ready to take home or you may be able to fill your own box or bag from the week's yield. Since you are sharing both the risk and the reward with the farmer, some weeks your share may be light and other weeks you may have more than you know what to do with.
